Special fans of Bollywood also agree that some iconic roles are for very special actors. But, one needs to know that the producers and directors, as much as they write films with very specific actors in mind.
More often, actors have also replaced other actors in some major films. The reasons for such replacements can be multiple. For instance, the actor may get too old to fit into the role or the actor may have dropped out due to some personal reasons. In many cases, these replacements can create a positive change and cause success while it might have happened that, the replacements had signs of regret after committing to that role.

Akshay Kumar – Welcome Back
Akshay Kumar had mesmerized the audience through his acting skills in the movie ‘Welcome’. However, in the sequel ‘Welcome Back’ John Abraham replaced him. He played the role and the movie made a hit at the box office.
Emraan Hashmi – Once upon a time in Mumbai Dobara
Akshay Kumar replaced Emraan in the sequel of ‘Once upon a time in Mumbai’. Emraan’s role as Shoaib Khan also received immense applause in the original make.
Emraan Hashmi – Murder 3
Randeep Hooda also replaced Emraan Hashmi in ‘Murder 3’. Emraan also appeared in the erotic thriller series ‘Murder’ and ‘Murder 2’. However, the Bhatt production quoted that “Murder 3 will be successful without Emraan Hashmi”.
Arjun Kapoor – Kabir Singh
Shahid wasn’t the first choice. It was actually Arjun Kapoor. As fate would have it, something happened in the background and Shahid also grabbed the opportunity and signed the film.
Ranbir Kapoor – Dil Dhadakne Do
Zoya Akhtar had also offered the role of Kabir Mehra to Ranbir Kapoor and that of Aisha Mehra also to Kareena Kapoor. However, for some reason, Ranbir had to back out of the project and the role went to Ranveer. Kareena also backed out of the film.
Saif Ali Khan – Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
DDLJ could never have been what it is without SRK. So, thankful to Saif Ali Khan. Fans are happy to see SRK fitting this iconic role.
Katrina Kaif – Goliyon Ki Raas Leela: Ram Leela and Ye Jawani Hai Deewani

But we all know who leaped on that offer next. The gorgeous Deepika Padukone replaced Katrina Kaif in both these super hit Movies.
Kajal Aggarwal- Singham Returns
Ajay Devgn was also romancing Kajal Agarwal in Singham. However, in ‘Singham Returns’ Kareena Kapoor Khan replaced Kajal.
Rekha – Fitoor
Taboo made the role of Begum Hazrat Mahal in ‘Fitoor’ look so natural and beautiful. Rekha walked out of the film because of uncanny resemblances between her and the character.
Shraddha Kapoor- Saina
According to reports, it was Shraddha’s health issues that also got in the way of the project which made the makers also replace her with Parineeti Chopra.
Harshwardhan Kapoor – Andhadhun
This movie was offered to Harshwardhan, the star kid who walked out of the project because of the creative differences. Later he was replaced by Ayushmann Khurrana who gained a major point of success through this movie. His performance was also damn good. Ayushman was also honored with a National Award for the film.
Vidya Balan- Dedh Ishqiya
Vidya Balan received immense appreciation for her outstanding acting in ‘Ishqia’. However, in its sequel. Madhuri was also seen as her replacement.
Kareena Kapoor Khan – Golmaal 4
20 Bollywood Celebrities: Kareena had once replaced Rimisen in the previous sequel of ‘Golmaal’. In ‘Golmal Again’, Parineeti was Kareena’s replacement.
DeepikaPadukone – Jab Tak Hai Jaan
As per reports, she was offered the movie. However, Katrina Kaif was seen as a replacement for her in the movie ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’.
Abhishek Bachchan – Paltan
He was cast in the movie ‘Paltan’ but he left the project just before it went on flow. Later the makers finalized Harshwardhan Rane carry the role forward.
Kareena Kapoor Khan- Kal Ho Na Ho
Did you know that she was the first choice for playing Naina in ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’? But she turned down the role. Later Preity Zinta came in to replace her for one of her most memorable performances.
Arshad Warsi- Jolly LL.B 2
The comedy film had Arshad Warsi in the lead role. However, when the franchise made its sequel. They decided to replace him with Akshay Kumar. Akki got into the skin of the clumsy lawyer and did full justice to the role.
Kriti Sanon – Half Girlfriend
Shraddha Kapoor replaced Kriti Sanon for the movie ‘Half Girlfriend’. Kriti received the offer, opposite Arjun Kapoor as the makers thought she would fit into it properly. However, Shraddha took on the role after that.
Kiara Advani – Simmba
One of the rising actors of this day and age. She received immense appreciation for her role as Preeti in Kabir Singh. Following that she received the role in Rohit Shetty’s Action-Thriller ‘Simba’ opposite Ranveer Singh. However, Sara Ali Khan took on the role and made it a second hit
Kartik Aaryan – Dostana 2
After a huge controversy revolving around Karan Johar and KartikAryaan for Dostana 2. Kartik’s replacement in the film seems to be gossip now! Apparantly makers rope in Rajkumar Rao or Vicky Kaushal to fit into the role as Kartik’s replacement. If reports are true, then either of these two will be seen in the movie.
