About Laal Singh Chaddha
Laal Singh Chaddha is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language comedy-drama film directed by Advait Chandan. The production houses include Aamir Khan Productions, Paramount Pictures and Viacom18 Studios.
It stars Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Naga Chaitanya in pivotal roles. Eric Roth and Atul Kulkarni wrote the screenplay for this movie.
Adapted from the Hollywood movie “Forrest Gump”, Laal Singh Chaddha underwent a few changes over twenty years, with Atul Kulkarni who spent the initial ten years adapting the script and the other ten in buying the remake rights.
Storyline
The movie features a story of a man with a low IQ. It revolves around a slow-witted guy who witnessed a few historical events in the 20th century.
It took into account India’s major events of the last five decades. The story begins with the childhood of the hero in 1968. The movie featured some incidents like Emergency, World Cup victory, Rath Yatra, etc. By incorporating such incidents, the makers aim at relating the audience to both young and old generations. It further leads to the formation of the Manmohan Singh government and the Modi government.
Aamir Khan is continuously seen running in the whole movie. He shot a few scenes in which he is running at various landmark locations. Also, various scenes of playing Table Tennis also featured in the movie.
Reports also suggest that the movie features the Sikh riots of 1984 that took place in and around the northern regions of India.
Release of the movie
Previously scheduled to release around Christmas 2020, the makers halted the production in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It resumed in the month of September 2020. The makers shifted the release date to Baisakhi 2022. However, the release date was shifted to the 11th of August, 2022.
Aamir Khan also bought the rights of Laal Singh Chaddha in early 2018 with the help of producer-director Radhika Chaudhari from Paramount Pictures. He announced the movie officially on 14 March 2019, coinciding with his 54th birthday, with its title. Kiran Rao, his ex-wife also produced the movie. Advait Chandan, who previously worked with Aamir Khan for the movie “Secret Superstar” was also signed for Laal Singh Chaddha.
Atul Kulkarni, who also worked with Aamir Khan in the movie “Rang De Basanti”, wrote the Hindi adaptation for Laal Singh Chaddha. Kulkarni said in an interview, “I wrote the script ten years ago, but Aamir took a couple of years because he did not believe that I must have written a good script. So he did not want to hurt me. After a few years, he heard the script and within 30 seconds he said I am going to do the film. It took another 7-8 years to get the remake rights from the makers of the original (Paramount), as the movie is solely based on the original.”
He also said, “Once the studio confirmed with Radhika Chaudhari that the right was available, Khan made a trip to Los Angeles in February 2018 and met with the studio heads along with Radhika Chaudhari and the process of acquisition started. Aamir said that he was trying to get the remake rights for seven or eight years and was excited that the rights were available and all formalities were completed so the film could be made.”
Location
The filming of Laal Singh Chaddha took place in more than a hundred locations. Locations like Thekkumbhagam, Changanassery, Kappil, Jaisalmer, Goa, Himachal Pradesh and others were featured in this movie. The principal photography began around October 2019.
Due to the India-China standoff along the Galwan Valley, the shooting halted for a while in the nearby locations.
Roles of the actors
Aamir Khan plays the titular role of Laal Singh Chaddha and Kareena Kapoor Khan plays the role of Manpreet Kaur Chaddha. Naga Chaitanya makes his debut in Bollywood as Ritesh Singh in the movie. Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan make a cameo appearances in the movie. Mona Singh also features in the film in the supporting role. Chaitanya joined the production in July 2021 and completed the shooting by August 2021. The complete shoot of the film wrapped up on 16 September 2021.
Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan appear together for the third time after “3 Idiots” in 2009 and “Talaash: The Answer Lies Within” in 2012. Vijay Sethupathi also signed up to feature in the movie but he later stepped back due to some unknown reasons. Aamir Khan lost around 20 kgs for playing a younger role in the movie.
Injury
Aamir suffered a rib injury while shooting an action sequence, but ensured no delay in the shoot. Khan took a few painkillers and tried to subside his injury and continued working as he knew that a few special arrangements were made for the shooting schedule. Earlier, while shooting for an important running sequence, Aamir Khan suffered from some extreme physical exertion due to constant running.
Music and Song
The makers didn’t release the trailer of the movie till now. They released the first song “Kahani” of the movie. Though they only released the video in audio format, the audience loved the song. The song became a big hit. This song is about 3.5 minutes long. T-Series released the song on its official YouTube channel. Pritam composed the song and Amitabh Bhattacharya wrote the lyrics. Releasing his song Kahaani on Radio 93.5 FM, Aamir said, “This song deserves to be heard more than watching him and Kareena. I can’t wait to see how the audience reacts to the music in which the team has put their heart and soul. I truly believe that Laal Singh Chaddha’s songs are the soul of the film.”
Fans’ Love
The fans, after listening to the song, filled the social media with immense love and care. They applauded the lyrics and music in the song. One of them tweeted, “Thank you so much sir for this perfect song, it’s really amazing .. The melody, the lyrics.. Everything! I am so anxious for the movie, I am sure it will be a masterpiece!! Very congratulations to you sir and all team I love you so much idol”. Another one wrote, “What a soothing track from #LaalSinghChaddha !! Truly refreshing Beautifully composed & very well sung. Can’t wait to see this film”. The users also commented and experienced nostalgia when they saw the couple together after the 3 Idiots movie.
Looks of the actors
Aamir Khan also revealed his first look from the movie in the poster. He looks like a Punjabi man with a turban and thick beard. Kareena Kapoor Khan also dressed up as a Punjabi woman in the poster. The makers revealed only a little about the movie through its poster and a song. Nothing much has been posted by the actors or the makers.
Actors’ Social Media Handle
On her 56th birthday, Kareena took to Instagram to share a post of Aamir Khan in his turban look in the movie. The caption read “Happy birthday my Lal… There will never be another like you… Can’t wait for people to see the magic you have done in this diamond of a film”.
Aamir Khan Productions shared a video in which he plays Beethoven’s Fur Elise on his piano. He shows off his amazing piano skills in the video. Various other videos also became viral in which Aamir plays cricket and table football. He also shares the way he picked radio as the means to tell the story of the film. Rumours suggested Aamir plays Shakti Kapoor’s character Crime Master Gogo from “Andaz Apna Apna”. At first, people speculated whether this movie would be a sequel to Andaz Apna Apna.
‘Feather’ connection with the movie
The movie seems to have a connection with feathers because the poster, song and Instagram filter feature feathers. They never revealed anything about this connection.
The promotions of the movie began with a bang. The makers decided to promote the movie in a unique way this time. They introduced an Instagram ‘feather’ filter on social media. In the filter, a feather flies down in the camera and whenever it touches the nose of the person in the camera, the black & white picture turns into a colourful one. Celebrities, like Neetu Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor, Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, etc.
In a new video, Aamir and Kareena who play the lead pair in the film use the Laal Singh Chadda filter as they try their hands at the feather challenge. This challenge was introduced by the actors on Instagram and motivated the social media users to post their videos using the Laal Singh Chaddha filter.
