From Yusuf Khan to Dilip Saab, a suhana safar…

Ude jab jab zulfein teri, jab pyaar kia toh darna kya and many more songs have been given life by the veteran actor Dilip Kumar himself. Dilip Kumar’s real name was Mohammed Yusuf Khan, he was the one who introduced method acting into Bollywood. He’s popularly entitled as “The Tragedy King” and “The First Khan”, although he didn’t use his real name in the industry; instead he used a stage name by which he’s still known, Dilip Kumar. Out of respect he is often referred as Dilip Saab or Dilip Saheb.

He made his debut in the year 1944, Jwar Bhata, a Bombay Talkies production. His career spans over 5 decades, thats more than 50 years! Dilipa Kumar has starred in over 65 movies. Although in 1976 he took a 5 year long break from the industry, and later on made a comeback in 1981 with his film Kranti. Dilip Saab’s last movie was Quila, in 1998.

A Tragic Love Story in Real Life? Or a Happily Ever After?

Dilip Kumar was in a long term relationship with legendary and beautiful actress Madhubala. But the duo never tied the knot and later on Dilip ji allegedly fell for Vyjanthimala. Although they are only considered as rumours as the duo never made any official statement. In 1966, Dilip Saab went on to tie the knot with Saira Bano, raising a lot of eyebrows because of their age gap.

Saira Bano is 22 years younger than Dilip Saab, but as they say age is just a number. It was Saira Bano who took care of Dilip Kumar till his last breathe, she was and always have been their for him; even though he married Asma Sahiba in 1981, taking her as his second wife. But Dilip Ji and Asma ended their marriage in 1983.

Dilip Kumar’s Family

Its saddening to lose your family one by one, until no one except for you is left. Dilip Kumar lost one his brothers, Nasir Khan in 1974. He lost his two more younger brothers in the Covid-19 Pandemic. Aslam Khan at the age of 88 in August 2020, and Ehsan Khan at 90 in September 2020. Now it was only Saira Bano and him left for each other, but Dilip ji’s health was also deteriorating.

The couple don’t have any children, and the reason was stated by Dilip Ji in his autobiography. Saira had complications during her pregnancy in 1992, which led to the death of the child in her womb. Accepting it as the God’s will, they never tried for a child again.

We hope and pray for Saira Bano as well, for her to stay strong during this tough time. Rest in Peace Dilip Kumar Saab.
