Holi has been a necessary part of Bollywood, the super hit songs, evergreen dialogues, and whatnot. It tempts us to groove on never-ending Holi songs, from Sholay in 1975 to Padmaavat in 2018. Sholay (1975)

The iconic Jai-Veeru movie has given a song that still has acquired an irreplaceable position in our hearts. Everyone surely revisits this classic song every Holi and feels the undying magic. The song “Holi Ke Din Dil Khil Jate Hain” features Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra and Hema Malini dancing at the festival of Holi. The title of the song means that on the day of Holi, everyone’s heart is happy. The scene is of Gabbar’s dacoits surprisingly attacking the people playing Holi.

Baghban (2003)

The moment we hear this movie’s name, our mind surely gets captivated by the echo of Amitabh’s voice in the song “Holi Khele Raghuveera”. The song displays various actors, including Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Salman Khan and others and ironically, the singer of this song is none other than Mr Bachchan himself. Probably, this song could serve as the Holi anthem of our country not just because of the song, but also because of Amitabh and Hema’s on-screen chemistry during those days. During this scene, Amitabh and his family and friends played Holi on a lawn during this scene.

Silsila (1981)

Before talking about the song, let’s celebrate the hat-trick of the everlasting bond of Amitabh Bachchan and the festival of colours. The song “Rang Barse Bhige Chunarwali” which Amitabh himself sings during the movie is said to be one of the most popular Indian folk songs. Harivansh Rai Bachchan wrote this song. This song ruled hearts back then and even now every Holi, nostalgia strikes hard. The song features Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Rekha, Sanjiv Kumar and Shashi Kapoor. The sensational couple Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan’s romance was quite visible in the whole song. The Bollywood industry can still count this song as one of the most favourite festival songs.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013)

Probably the most favourite Holi song of the youth population is from this blockbuster movie. The song “Balam Pichkari”, a great hit just like the other songs of this movie. Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Kalki Koechlin were featured in this movie. The scene was shot while the group was travelling in a bus and they stopped in between wherein Deepika, an introvert opens up with the group. The movie did give us some memorable Holi moments inspiration to create with our friends.

Raanjhanaa (2013)

Dhanush’s Bollywood debut with Sonam Kapoor had a romantic song “Tum Tak” shot in a Holi scene. This soothing song was a great success and is still on the playlists of many even after 9 years of release. Sonam applies “gulaal” on Dhanush’s face in the song and he falls in love with her.

Mohabbatein (2000)

This classic all-time romantic favourite of many viewers had a song “Soni Soni” wherein three students along with their professor dance with the girls they love while playing Holi. And guess what? This is again an Amitabh Bachchan film but unfortunately, the song does not cast him. The film also features Shahrukh Khan and many other actors. This was one such movie whose songs were as famous as the movie itself.

Jolly LLB 2 (2017)

Unlike other movies, this movie had a quite crazy Holi song “Go Pagal” which means Let’s get mad. The film was an Akshay Kumar and Huma Qureshi super hit revolving around a legal case. The song gives crazy vibes and won’t let your feet stop. Though there is a tragic end to this song but the song is fun overall.

Goliyon ki Rasleela Ram-Leela (2013)

This sizzling superhit by Sanjay Leela Bhansali created widespread disputes among the nation due to the film’s title, later on, it was renamed. Given the intense scenes in this movie, “Lahu Muh Lag Gaya” song based on Holi was a highlight for the viewers. The on-screen chemistry of Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone in this film got soon converted into off-screen as well after they got married. Despite opposition from various religious groups, the film received immense love from the audience and the couple made a few more movies together.

Padmaavat (2018)

Sanjay Leela Bhansali might have faced a “deja vu” while releasing this movie because it again featured Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh along with Shahid Kapoor and also there were violent protests all over the nation again. Rescheduling for the release of this film got done after making some changes and renaming. Though the movie had shown Deepika and Shahid as a couple this time, the romance aspect was equally good. The song “Ek Dil Ek Jaan” featured the couple playing Holi and other romantic scenes. This blockbuster hit received a great response from the viewers because of its amazing direction, cinematography, dance and costumes.

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017)

This Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Padnekar classic hit was undoubtedly the best lesson for the viewers. Based on a unique love story, the film taught everyone the importance of sanitation and hygiene. In the song “Gori Tu Latth Maar” wherein the actress beats the actor with a stick. The song takes us back to the old days of Radha-Krishna because people in Barsana and Nandgaon celebrate this tradition in Holi. During the festival, the women beat the males with a stick because when males from Nandgaon used to visit Radha’s hometown Barsana, the women of Barsana used to beat them.

Darr (1993)

The expressions of Shahrukh Khan while saying this popular “I love you k..k..k..Kiran” dialouge was out of this movie. The beautiful Holi song “Ang Se Ang Lagana” features Juhi and Sunny as a couple performing the hugging step, whereas Shahrukh appears as the one playing ‘Dhol’. Shahrukh’s obsession for Juhi in the movie made him appear in this track.

Waqt: The Race Against Time (2005)

For all the Bachchan fans, let’s celebrate Holi again with a song from Amitabh Bachchan’s film. The film also features Priyanka Chopra and Akshay Kumar, who has also become a repetitive icon in Holi songs. Holi playlists still carry the song “Do Me A Favor Let’s Play Holi” due to the fun and dance associated with it. Akshay and Priyanka indulge in playing Holi and dancing along in the scenes. Holi is not complete without grooving to this old-school classic music.

2 States (2014)

The novel-based romantic movie is an eye-opener for the ones still following the traditional caste barriers in marriage. The author Chetan Bhagat wrote this novel. The film teaches a lesson and at the same time, there was a fun aspect too in the song “Offo”. The song shots scenes of various festivals from Holi to  Navratri to Christmas to Janmashtami. The on-screen romance of Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor won many hearts, after all, there was a lot of romance and intimacy between both. All the songs received a good response from the viewers.

Action Replayy (2010)

A sci-fi romantic comedy movie starring Akshay Kumar, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Aditya Roy Kapoor, and Neha Dhupia had a song “Chann Ke Mohalla”. To depict Holi vibes, the creators made colourful sets wherein Aishwarya performs a dance in the whole song. The famous Randhir Kapoor has also played a small role in the film. The Miss World has barely done 3-4 lead roles in movies after this movie. Though the movie did not go very well, the songs did perform well and were a success.

Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017)

The new age on-screen couple, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt gained a lot of public attention in the last few years. The title track of this movie “Badri Ki Dulhania” features both of them playing Holi. The release of this movie around Holi made them use a lot of colours and gulaal in the song. Both the protagonists were grooving to each and every beat of this super hit song. The music sets the party mood right and would force the listeners to come and hop on the dance floor.
