Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003)

Probably you might find yourself surrounded by a pool of tears after watching this film. A girl leading a dull life sees life from a different perspective after she meets her new neighbour and falls in love with him. Meanwhile, the neighbour pretends to be a married man because of his fatal disease and sets her up with her best friend. This Nikhil Advani directorial with a story by Karan Johar casts Shahrukh Khan, Pretty Zeinta, Saif Ali Khan and Jaya Bachchan in the lead roles. The whole movie revolves around stressing the importance of family and friends. In the last scene, wherein Shahrukh lies on a deathbed, he upsets his viewers by bidding an emotional farewell to the character in the film. 

Kapoor And Sons (2016)

The story of two brothers, who return to their home after a few years to see their ailing grandfather turns into a family drama when unsolved problems start opening up. The relationship worsened between the brothers after they encounter a girl in their lives. Some cracks in the family lead to bigger problems. And by the end, the father of these brothers die in an accident. Besides some emotional moments, the song “Saathi Re” reminds us of a person who left our lives and all we can do is just miss them. The unbeatable acting of the late Rishi Kapoor in the film leaves us nostalgic every time we watch this film. It also stars Siddharth Malhotra, Fawad Khan and Alia Bhatt with a few more actors. 

Veer-Zaara (2004)

An emotional romantic film wherein an Indian pilot falls in love with a Pakistani girl. When the pilot arrives in Pakistan to flee the girl before her wedding, her family sends him to prison on false charges. Due to a lawyer, they both reunite after 22 years and marry each other. This romantic story has a lot of emotional scenes and songs, which will surely make you go to your love and cry in their arms. The movie features Shahrukh Khan, Pretty Zeinta, and Rani Mukherjee in lead roles. The blockbuster Jodi Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini appear in supporting roles. The film portrays a real issue in our society, regarding the India-Pakistan differences which prevail due to partition after Independence. 

Baghban (2003) 

The importance of family and the issues it faces as the parents’ ageing occurs cannot be better portrayed in any other film. This classic movie featuring a classic couple, Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini in lead roles, delivers an impactful message through this movie. The story is of two parents, who sacrifice as much as they can to give a perfect life to their four children. But as the father retires, his sons treat both the parents selfishly. And due to this, both the parents part ways and live separately with each son.

The movie conveys a strong message throughout the film is that the parents are the roots of children’s lives and when the tree grows old, children are supposed to look after them. When parents can hold their children to take their first steps in life, why can’t the same children hold on to their parents while they take the last steps of life? This movie makes us realize the value and importance of the support our parents provide. It brings to the eyes of the watchers, especially parents as it displays the harsh truth of this generation. 

Shershaah (2021)

The modern age action film with a touch of emotion and love showcases the real-life story of a brave soldier Vikram Batra. This biopic tells us the story of a young man aspiring to become a soldier, who falls in love with a girl. After his training, his rankings improved and played a pivotal role in the Kargil War. He promised the girl to marry her after returning from the war but destiny promised something else. He never returned from the war, but a proud body happy over their victory returned at his funeral. The film makes us proud of the captain and his achievements. And at the same time, it brings tears to our eyes over the way his promise remains unfulfilled. The song “Mann Bharrya 2.0” by B Praak depicts the pain and suffering an individual goes through after losing their loved ones. 

Dil Bechara (2020)

Viewers might even cry before watching this film because this was the last film of the superstar Sushant Singh Rajput. Sushant lost his life by hanging on to a fan in his residence during the COVID-19 pandemic in June 2020. The film portrays the story of two individuals suffering from a terminal illness, who fall in love with each other. They both spent the last days of her together so that they can make the best out of their lives. Ironically, Sushant lost his life in the film and in the real world too.

Sanjana Sanghi made her first film with the last film of Sushant. The film was an emotional setback for all the fans because it brought the saddest tears out of Sushant’s fans’ hearts. The heartbreaking scenes left everyone in tears. The actor died just 40 days before the release of this movie. In honour of this lovely actor, the movie was available to everyone on Disney+ Hotstar without any subscription.

Taare Zameen Par (2007)

The portrayal of a story of a child’s relationship with his parents in this film made everyone cry their hearts out. A son, who is weak in academics face criticism from his parents, who send him to a boarding school. At the school, an art teacher recognizes the child’s disease, ‘dyslexia’ which is a reading disorder. The teacher helps him recover and utilize his potential. One of the best films by Aamir Khan and the son’s acting by Darsheel Safary was worth watching. The movie raised global awareness of dyslexia and created a social impact. The song “Maa” from this film still makes us emotional because the lyrics and soundtrack used very well describe the situation of the child in this film. 

Neerja (2016)

Another real-life story is based on the life of a courageous flight attendant Neerja Bhanot. She saved hundreds of lives while her plane got hijacked, she risked her life to save the passengers from the terrorists on board. Meanwhile saving everyone, she lost her life. She went on to become the youngest person to win the highest gallantry award, Ashok Chakra. This film showcased the whole incident very well and made our citizens aware of this courageous event. The viewers felt very proud of Neerja Bhanot, who sacrificed her life to save other lives. While paying tribute to her at the end of this movie, the sentiments attached made every heart cry from within. Sonam Kapoor played the role of Neerja very graciously and skillfully. 

Thappad (2020)

A young woman living a happy and content life with her husband gets shattered when the husband slaps her out of frustration in front of everyone at a party. This incident left her devastated and forced her to file a divorce. Everyone confronted her to step back and live together again. But she felt the opposite and she carried on with the divorce proceedings. Meanwhile, the husband and his lawyer pressed false charges against her to stop the divorce. In the end, the husband realized his mistake and apologizes to her while parting their way through a divorce. They end the film on a happy note by becoming good friends and hoping to reunite soon.

The movie is a message for every woman going through harassment from her husband or her in-laws to stop this evil practice and raise their voices against it. This form of harassment is quite prevalent in our country and women choose to stay shut over this issue due to some fear. Women should report this behaviour as soon as possible as it gives courage to the other person to commit the same act again and again. This film brought tears and a sense of hope at the same time to the women who face such issues. Taapsee Pannu played the lead role in this movie. 

Sarbjit (2016)

One of the most emotional Bollywood movies based on the incident in the life of a farmer that turned his life upside down. Sarabjit Singh, a farmer from Punjab crossed the Indo-Pak border in a drunken state. Due to this, he faced imprisonment for 22 years in a Pakistani jail for alleged terrorism and spying. Her sister, determined to free him from all the false claims sets on a mission. After her constant efforts for 22 years, they finally met him in jail. After a few months, his inmates in jail beat him up and he was hospitalized in a Pakistani hospital. His wife, children and sister visited the hospital to look after him. Shortly after they were sent back, he lost his life and his body was sent back to India.

The viewers hoped to have a happy ending with Sarabjit returning back to his home in India but it never happened and it broke the hearts of its viewers. The movie itself demands justice for the late Sarabjit Singh who was innocent and honest. Randeep Hooda lost 18 kgs in just 28 days to seem fit for the role of Sarabjit. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Richa Chadda are also featured in the film.
