Priyanka Chopra has always set the goal higher, for herself as well as upcoming stars in the Bollywood. She rose in her career not with mainstream roles but with supporting roles, as said by her. In an interview with Anupama Chopra, Priyanka talked about her memoir “Unfinished”; and her career in Hollywood as well as Bollywood. On this Priyanka said that it almost took her 10 years to reach where she is in Bollywood. And it’s just been 6 years or so since she started building her career in Hollywood. And she still has a long way to go.
Priyanka’s memoir, “Unfinished” became a bestseller in less than 24 hours of its release and is a massive hit. Priyanka Chopra is a person who was taught to not open up much in public. And she has always been told to think before speaking because of her public image; she has done the exact opposite by writing this book. As she has talked about every important moment of her life till now that matters. When she started writing her memoir, Priyanka said “I realised I have no memories”. Her life was in a constant motion, and it still is. She started writing her memoir during the lockdown, when she was quarantined with her husband for 6 months. Priyanka also said that it was first time in almost 25 years that she had stayed home for so long.
What made Priyanka do supporting roles? Was it the western wind that changed her decisions?
Priyanka Chopra has done a number of movies, and a variety of roles. Whether we talk about Aitraaz, or Kaashibai in Bajirao Mastani, Priyanka is a versatile actress. Talking about why did she agree to do a supporting role in her recent movie “The White Tiger”, she reasoned. It wasn’t a western thing to do small roles or supporting roles, but it was a “Priyanka Thing”. Priyanka has acted different roles when it comes to her career; in fact her role in Bajirao Mastani got vas appreciation by critics as well as the audience. So doing a role, whether small or mainstream has solely been Priyanka’s decision from the beginning.
We also know that her movie Aitraaz, where we saw her in a negative role was during the beginning of her career. And many advised her against the role. As it would label her as a vamp, and it wouldn’t be good for her career. But Chopra proved them wrong.
“I have built my career on supporting parts, so I am not someone who’s afraid of roles or length of a role”; “I don’t require that to make my mark”. Stainlawski once said and Amitabh Bachchan quote that “there are no small roles, there are only small actors”. She has also mentioned this in her book.
When Priyanka Chopra almost lost Ms. World accidentally
Did you know Priyanka Chopra had a small incident during the International Pageant. She shared this incident in the popular Jimmy Fallon’s show while talking about her memoir “Unfinished”. There was a tendril lock of hair on Priyanka’s face during the pageant. And during that time she tried to act it cool as if it was how she chose it to be. But in the book she mentioned that it wasn’t the actual case.
She was trying to curl her hair, and there were about 90 women backstage. Everyone was rushing about and getting their hair and makeup done. During the rush someone hustled past her, and somehow the curler burnt her forehead then. And it made a burnt mark on her forehead which she then had to conceal with makeup and that tendril. Although it is definitely a funny incident; Priyanka says that every-time she looks back, she thinks about the choice of the tendril and laughs it off.
Now, if we think about it, Priyanka Chopra was on an international platform, that too a Global Pageant, with a forehead burn hidden with a concealer and a tendril. We are just glad that everything worked in her favour that night, as this sure is a hilarious memory to hold on too. Thankfully this incident didn’t lead to any harm regarding her winning chances and becoming Ms. World in 2000.
