RRR Movie: Definitely the most awaited film of 2022!
With two of the top 10 highest-grossing films of India, Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, in his portfolio, S.S. Rajamouli is yet back with another high budget movie RRR, which has created a lot of buzz in the public. Let us look at some interesting facts about RRR Movie:
The Cast
The film casts N. T. Rama Rao Jr., Ram Charan, Olivia Morris, Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn. Other than these two Telugu film industry superstars, this movie is a debut for the other three. Bhatt and Devgn who recently appeared together in Gangubai Kathiawadi, are making their debut in the Telugu film industry. Also, the British film actress Morris is appearing for the first time in the Telugu film industry.
S.S. Rajamouli directed the film and DVV Entertainments produced it. The writer of this film is K. V. Vijayendra Prasad, Rajamouli’s father.
The supporting cast
The supporting cast of this movie includes Irish actors Alison Doody and Ray Stevenson, Shriya Saran, and Samuthirakani. The film seems like a fusion of actors from different industries and their blend makes the movie something very special and unique.
Release Date
After the film’s announcement in March 2018, there have been various delays and postponements for the release due to the pandemic situation. The Delay of the release of the film shifted it to June 2020, but it completed its shooting in July 2021 except for two songs. Postponing of the film shifted the release to January 2022 but due to some reasons, it is finally releasing on 25th March 2022 in Telugu along with the dubbed versions of Kannada, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam and other languages. It will also be released in 3D, IMAX and Dolby Cinema. The running time of the film is 187 minutes.
Storyline
This is a story of two characters, played by Rama Rao and Charan, who fight against Nizam of Hyderabad and the British Raj respectively. Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sita Ramaraju, the two freedom fighters have been introduced in the movie. But the story is purely fictional as the two fighters never met each other in person but they did meet in the movie.
Abbreviations
The abbreviations for the title varies as per the languages, for instance, Raththam Ranam Rowthiram in Tamil, Roudram Ranam Rudhiram in Telugu, and Rise Roar Revolt in English and Hindi. All of these mean Rage, War and Blood. For the fans, a different abbreviation has become quite popular, i.e., Rajamouli, Ram Charan and Rama Rao.
The actors have literally put their souls into this film. Alia Bhatt learned to speak Telugu for the film and N. T. Rama Rao Jr. has himself dubbed the movie in Hindi. Charan and Rama Rao dubbed their portions in their mother tongues respectively. Also, they spoke Tamil for the first time in this movie.
Alia Bhatt played the role of Sita in this movie. Ajay Devgn has a cameo, who will appear after the interval during the flashback parts.
Olivia Morris, playing the role opposite Rama Rao Jr. replaced Daisy Edgar-Jones for her role because Daisy left for some personal reasons.
Ray Stevenson, known for the role of Volstagg in Thor movies plays a significant role in the film.
An eighteen-month training programme took place for Rama Rao to appear perfectly fit for the role. He acquired the physique necessary for the role and even ran barefoot in the jungles of Bulgaria.
The injury of Rama Rao and Ram Charan during the shooting of this film led to a halt in the shoot. The cost of an action sequence filmed after their recovery came around more than Rs 45 crore. The entry sequences of Rama Rao and Ram Charan has cost around Rs 40 crore, which is even more than the budget of many small films.
Pre-release Business
RRR has done a massive business before its release, taking the film to be the highest in India to do so. The film made a pre-release business of more than Rs 850 crore, the first Indian film to achieve so. The total budget for the film is Rs 400 crore, making it the second most expensive Indian film.
Pen Studios announced that Zee5 acquired the digital rights for the film’s Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada versions. Netflix acquired Hindi, English, Korean, Spanish and Portuguese and Turkish versions’ rights. Also, Zee Network obtained satellite rights for the Hindi language. Star India Network acquired Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam versions’ satellite rights. M. M. Keeravani took care of the composition of the soundtracks and background score of this film.
The shooting of the movie on Arri Alexa LF and Arri’s Signature Prime Lens made it one of the first Indian films to do so.
Music and Soundtrack
T-Series and Lahari Music bought the audio rights of this film for around Rs 25 crore. T-Series distributed the soundtrack in Hindi language and Lahari Music took care of South Indian music.
The shooting of this film took place in various places from Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad to Vadodara to Mahabaleshwar and other places.
Title
Initially, the tentative title “RRR” represented the initials of the two lead actors and Rajamouli. Later on, it became official as it got very popular.
Alia Bhatt and Olivia Morris are paired with Ram Charan and NTR respectively. Shriya Saran is paired opposite to Ajay Devgn, who is reported to have a screen time of around 40 minutes.
NTR used a Velocette motorcycle in the film, which is quite antique because the company stopped its production in 1971. The management took care of every props and background used by Rajamouli.
The inspiration to make this film came when he read about the individual stories of both the revolutionaries and found something relatable between the two. Though they never met, some questions arose in Rajamouli’s mind about what if they met and bonded with each other. This served as a great plot for the movie.
Cinematography
The cinematography of this film is very detailed because the poster portrays Rama Raju with fire and Bheem with water. This means both the characters represent those things.
Visual Effects
Srinivas Mohan along with Moving Picture Company and Framestore took care of the visual effects of the film. There are other studios as well that play a major role in the visual effects of the film.
Promotions
At a promotional event, the director, on being asked about the experience while working with these 2 stardoms, told the public that on the first day, both NTR and Charan behaved like kids. Almost 20 days of their shoot were wasted due to their childish behaviour. But by the end of the shoot, their friendship grew even stronger.
Controversies
In October 2020, a teaser came out on Bheem’s 119th birth anniversary. It portrayed Rama Rao dressing as a Muslim man wearing a skull cap and kohl. This led to a lot of controversies because Bheem belonged to the Adivasi tribe and not the Muslim community. During an election, the BJP president even threatened Rajamouli regarding destroying his theatres if he tried to hurt the Hindu sentiments. But later on, a clarification came out that in the movie, Rama Rao was being hunted by the Nizam of Hyderabad, so he was escaping from them by being dressed as a Muslim man.
Public Interest Litigation
Again in January 2022, a few groups filed public interest litigation (PIL) in Telangana High Court against the filmmakers to stop the release of the film. It stated that the film tries to misrepresent the history of the two revolutionaries. But the High Court dismissed the petition stating there is no such distortion.
Songs
RRR Movie’s first song, ‘Dosti’ came out in August 2021 on the occasion of Friendship day. 5 different singers in 5 different languages composed this song.
The release of the RRR Celebration Anthem on 14th March featured the two lead male actors and Alia Bhatt in the poster. As the name suggests, the song is joyful and full of high energy. Also, the promotions of the movie began with the release of this song.
The song ‘Naatu Naatu’ features Rama Rao and NTR dancing to the upbeats of this song. The song has set fire on social media with people showcasing their moves on the track. Many celebrities have kept up with this trend and performed the signature steps of the actors. The shooting of this song took place in Kyiv, Ukraine. During the promotions, Aamir Khan learns the steps from Jr NTR and Charan on stage.
Promotion of RRR Movie became the first movie to do so at the world’s tallest monument, the Statue of Unity, in Gujarat. The actors and directors were also seen as autographing for their fans over there.
