Bollywood movies always come up with new and exciting plots, which also include commendable cinematography and locations. But what lies behind all this is budget; the more appealing the movies look, the higher the budget. High-budget movies also do not necessarily mean success at the box office. Let’s look at some of the upcoming high-budget movies in 2022:
RRR
RRR portrays the story of two characters, played by Rama Rao and Charan, who fight against the Nizam of Hyderabad and the British Raj respectively. Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sita Ramaraju were two freedom fighters who have been introduced in the movie but the story is purely fictional as the two fighters never met each other in person but they did meet in the movie. The movie is directed by S.S. Rajamouli and produced by DVV Entertainments. The writer of this film is K. V. Vijayendra Prasad, Rajamouli’s father. Also, the film casts N. T. Rama Rao Jr., Ram Charan, Olivia Morris, Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn. With a budget of around Rs 550 crore, the movie also became one of the most high-budget movies in Bollywood. It hit the theatres on 25th March 2022.
K.G.F: Chapter 2
Prashanth Nee directed the film and Vijay Kiragandur produced it under Hombale Films. The cast of this film includes Yash, Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, Srinidhi Shetty and Prakash Raj. With a budget of around Rs 100 crores, this film earns the title of the costliest Kannada film, just like its first part. The film earned a total of around Rs 970 crore, reaching the milestone of Rs 1000 crore very soon. As the first chapter ended with Rocky becoming a saviour for the people, he faces Adeera, Garuda’s younger brother in the second chapter. The film was released on the 14th of April, 2022.
Prithviraj
An upcoming historical action drama directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi and produced by Yash Raj Films features the story of Chahamanas Dynasty Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan. This biopic of his life also portrays an epic love story of a fearless warrior. Akshay Kumar, Manushi Chhillar, Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood play the main roles in the movie. Also, the Miss World 2017 Manushi makes her debut in this film. It will be released on the 3rd of June, 2022. Built on a budget of Rs 300 crore, the film also displays the cinematography of the maharaja style.
Brahmastra Part One: Shiva
A fantasy adventure film, produced by Karan Johar and written and directed by Ayan Mukerji portrays the story of the god Shiva. The film, set in contemporary India, where Brahmansh, a secret society guards the astras (weapons) created in ancient India thousands of years ago. Now one of them, Brahmastra, wakes up to destroy the universe. To prevent it, Shiva uses the power of fire that he is bestowed with. The film casts the newly wedded couple, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt with Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna also.
The film, based on the concept of the trilogy, releases its first part only on 9th September 2022. The second and third parts are also set to release in 2024 and 2026 respectively. It became one of the costliest superhero flicks in Bollywood with a budget of over Rs 300 crore. This also became one of the most popular mythological films in the industry.
Laal Singh Chaddha
Releasing on the 11th of August, 2022, the movie features Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Naga Chaitanya in pivotal roles. Co-produced by Aamir Khan Productions, Paramount Pictures and Viacom18 Studios, and directed by Advait Chandan, the film’s budget lies around Rs 180 crore. The story revolves around a slow-witted guy who witnessed some historical events in the 20th century. Reports suggest that Aamir lost around 20 kgs for Laal Singh Chaddha. Also, the filming locations for this film reached around 100 in India.
Dhaakad
Directed by Razneesh Ghai and co-produced by Deepak Mukut and Sohel Maklai, the movie casts Kangana Ranaut, Arjun Rampal and Divya Dutta. It is all set to release on the 20th of May, 2022. Built on a budget of around Rs 70-80 Crore, it also becomes one of the most expensive films in Kangana’s portfolio. It tells us the story of a highly trained field agent, who sets on a mission. The mission also includes gathering Intel and eliminating an international human and arms trafficker, who stayed off the radar for a decade.
Valimai
Released on 24 February 2022, it showcases a city that witnesses a spike in its crime rate due to the activities of a notorious motorcycle club. When things start getting out of hand, Arjun, a police officer, vows to restore law and order. It features Ajith Kumar, Huma Qureshi, Kartikeya Gummakonda and Gurbani Judge. Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by Boney Kapoor, the makers made the film for Rs 150 crore.
Beast
A Tamil-language action comedy film released pan India was written and directed by Nelson and produced by Sun Pictures. Built on a budget of around Rs 150 crore, the movie hit the theatres on 13th April 2022. The movie casts Vijay and Pooja Hegde in the lead roles with many other supporting roles. It focuses on the story of an ex-RAW agent’s crusade to rescue people held hostage in a shopping mall by terrorists.
Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali
Directed by Farhad Samji and written by Sajid Nadiadwala, the film stars Salman Khan, Pooja Hegde, and Rofique Khan. Reports also suggest that even Shehnaz Gill thinks of making her Bollywood debut with this movie. Expected to be released on the 30th of December, 2022, the production companies include AVA Films and Entertainment, Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and Bake My Cake Films. Made with an expected budget of Rs 300 crore, rumours also surfaced of the film’s renaming to “Bhaijaan”. Reports suggest the plot of the film revolves around the younger brothers, who remain unmarried because of their elder brother, who also remains unmarried.
Ponniyin Selvan: I
Also known as PS-I, this historical fiction film is directed and co-produced by Mani Ratnam, along with Allirajah Subaskaran. Set to release on 30 September 2022, the movie casts Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Karthi and many others also. Made with a budget of Rs 500 crore, the film revolves around the life of Chola Prince Arulmozhi Varman.
Adipurush
An upcoming mythological film based on the epic Ramayana casts Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Sunny Singh, Saif Ali Khan and Devdatta Nage. Sonal Chauhan also joined them a few days ago. Built on a budget of Rs 500 crore, T-Series Films and Retrophiles produced the movie and Om Raut directed it. Around 7000 years ago, Ayodhya’s king Shri Ram travelled to the island of Lanka with the aim to rescue his wife Sita. Lankesh, the king of Lanka abducted Sita. Scheduled to release on 11th August 2022, the film received a further delay.
Gangubai Kathiawadi
A real-life story inspired by the novel “Mafia Queens of Mumbai” features the story of Gangubai Kothewali who rose from the city of Kathiawad. This Sanjay Leela Bhansali film casts Alia Bhatt as the lead actress with Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Seema Pahwa and Indira Tiwari. Ajay Devgn appears in an extended cameo in the film. The movie released on 25th February 2022 in theatres. Also, it features the story of a girl who is sold up to a brothel as a sex worker by his boyfriend. It also focuses on her uprising as a queen of the brothel, who also fights for the rights of sex workers. Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Jayantilal Gada produced the film. The budget of this movie lies around Rs 166 crore.
Shamshera
Directed by Karan Malhotra and produced by Aditya Chopra, the movie features Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, and Vaani Kapoor. It also displays the story set in the 1890s where a dacoit leads a rebellion and fights for freedom from British rule. Set to release on July 22, 2022, the film marks Ranbir Kapoor’s first-period film. The estimated budget of this movie lies around Rs 300 crore.
Bhediya
A comedy horror film directed by Amar Kaushik and produced by Dinesh Vijan, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon play the lead roles in the film. The movie marks the third instalment in Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy portfolio, Roohi and Stree also remain in the series. The film releases on 25 November 2022. It showcases the story of a werewolf, whose roots lie in popular folklore. It was made with a budget of around Rs 150 crore. Kriti feels excited about trying new genres with this film and her other upcoming ones also.
Heropanti 2
The second instalment of the film series Heropanti, “Heropanti 2” features Tara Sutaria and Tiger Shroff again together. It also casts the superstar Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead role. Directed by Ahmed Khan and produced by Nadiadwala Grandson and Entertainment, the film released on 29 April 2022. Also, Heropanti 2 features the story of a guy who helps people at night. From saving someone from a robbery or kidnapping, the guy always remains present for helping everyone. The Indian government also finds out about this guy and decides to send him to Russia. Over there, he receives the mission of killing Russian troops at night. But somehow things turn otherwise and the whole world thinks of him as the leader of the Russian troops. The budget of this movie is around Rs 70-80 crores.
These high-budget movies look very promising in terms of box office success, given their amazing cast and storyline. A few of these movies already released in the past months but the other high-budget movies look forward to marking their release. Let’s wait and watch!
