A Biopic is basically a film that features the life story of a real person or a particular incident involving the person in Bollywood a  lot of biopic films have been produced and most often they go unnoticed. Again listed under the best sports biopic category ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ is based on the life of our own Flying Sikh, the great Milkha Singh. Directed by Rakesh Omprakash Mehra. The film stars Farhan Akhtar in Milkha Singh.

3) Mary Kom (2014)

Directed by Omung Kumar, the film features Priyanka Chopra Jonas in the lead role of Mary Kom. The film depicts Mark Kom’s life and the struggles she faced while pursuing her passion to become a boxer and represent India at the international level. Mary Kom is highly inspiring.

4) Neerja (2016)

‘Neerja’ is a Hindi biopic thriller film featuring Sonam Kapoor who plays the lead role of Neerja Bhanot. This movie features her life where she valiantly saves 359 out of 397 passengers during the hijack attempt of PanAm flight 73 in Karachi, Pakistan. Ram Madvani, the director of the film who narrates it from Neerja’s point of view and also highlights the trauma faced by a family during the whole incident. Shabana Azmi plays her mother in the film.

5) M.S Dhoni: The untold story (2016)

Considered as one of the best biopcs, “M.S Dhoni: The untold story’ is based on the life of Indian cricketer and former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Late actor Sushant Singh Rajput plays his outstanding portrait in the film. Neeraj pandey is the director of the movie who shares some of the unknown and interesting facts about M.S Dhoni during his cricketing career. The movie also stars Disha Patani and Kiara Advani, Anupan kher in significant roles. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, ‘Haseena Parkar’ is an Indian biographical crime film based on Dawood Ibrahim’s sister, Haseena Parker. Shraddha Kapoor plays the lead in the movie with Siddhant Kapoor and Ankur Bhatia as supporting cast. This is a story of the slightly less: notorious sister of a notorious gangster.

9) Hichki (2018)

Directed by Siddhart P. Malhotra, ‘Hichki’ is an adaptation of Brad Cohen’s 2005 auto biography ‘Front of the Class: How Tourette Syndrome Made Me the Teacher I Never Had’. Hichki also features Rani Mukherjee in the lead role as an aspiring teacher having tourette syndrome who proves herself by educating a group of under privileged children. This biopic was highly appreciated and even more after Rani’s comeback on the big screen.

10) Sanju (2018)

One of the most controversial biopics, ‘Sanju’ is a comedy-drama film. Rajkumar Hirani is the director of the film. The movie stars Ranbir Kapoor as the lead also with a long cast of talented actors like Anushka Sharma, Vicky Kushal, Manisha Koirala, Paresh Rawal, Dia Mirza, Sonam Kapoor, and Jim Sarbh. The film is based on Sanjay Dutt, his addiction to drugs, and his arrest with his association with the 1993 Bombay Bombings.

‘Super 30’ is an Indian Hindi biopic based on the story of a mathematics teacher and also an educator, Anand Kumar, and his education program of the same name. Vikas Bahl is the director of the film which features Hrithik Roshan as the titled hero. Based on the life of an acid attack survivor, ‘Chapaak’ features Deepika Padukone in the lead character. This biopic is inspired by Laxmi Agarwal’s life and Deepika proves it through her performance. 13)Tanhaji: The unsung warrior (2020)

This historical-based biopic is directed by Om Raut. The film also features Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, and Kajol in lead roles. The film depicts the life of Maratha warrior Tanaji Malusare’s attempts to re-capture the Kondhana fortress once it passes on to Aurangzeb who transfers it to trusted Rajput.

14)Gunjan Saxena (2020)

An Indian hindi biopic ‘Gunjan Saxena’ features Janhavi Kapoor as an Indian Airforce pilot.

She is one of the first Indian female Airforce pilots in combat. The film also features Pankaj Tripathi and Angad Bedi in lead roles. Sharan Sharma is also the director of this movie.

15) Shakuntala Devi (2020)

This Hindi Biopic traces the life of a Mathematician Shakuntala Devi who is known as the “Human-Computer”. Directed by Anu Menon, the film also stars Vidya Balan in the lead role. Vidya’s performance in the movie was deemed highly commendable by the critics.

The is based on the life of Harshad Mehta, a stock broker involved in financial crimes over a period of 10 years from 1980 to 1990. The movie also stars Nikita Dutta, Ileana D’cruz, Ram Kapoor etc. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic the film is streaming on Disney+ Hotsar.

‘Saina’ is also a recent sports biopic. Amole Gupte is the director of the movie. The movie stars Parineeti Chopra in the lead pivotal role as Saina Nehwal. The movie revolves around the life of badminton player Saina Nehwal.

18) 83 (2021)

’83’ is also an upcoming sports biopic directed by Kabir Khan. The film features Ranveer Singh as cricketer Kapil who was the captain of the Indian cricket team at the 1983 Cricket world cup. It also co-features Deepika Padukone, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Harddy Sandhu, and many others in pivotal roles. The film also revolves around the achievement of the team that had won the 1983 world cup. However, its theatrical release is affected due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and now the film is finally scheduled to release on 4th June 2021.

19) Gangubai Khathiawadi (2021)

‘Gangubai Khathiawadi’ is an upcoming Hindi biopic crime drama directed by Sanjay Leela Bansali. The movie also features Alia Bhatt in the lead role. Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi would also feature in a cameo appearance too. This is also one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2021. The film is about the life of Gangubai Kothewali, a young girl sold into prostitution and now she becomes the Madam of a brothel in Kamathipura. Fans are going crazy over Alia’s bold character in this movie. The film releases on 30th July 2021.

20) Thalaivi (2020)

‘Thalaivi’ is also an upcoming biography based on the life of J. Jayalalithaa. Kangana Ranaut plays the lead role in the movie. A.L Vijay is the director of the film. The release of the film is postponed due to the Covid -19 Pandemic.
