Pandu dies at the age of 74 today after testing positive for Covid-19. Pandu, a famous Tamil Comedian breathed his last here on Thursday. He is yet noted for his unique facial expressions and body language. According to his son Pintu, “He tested positive for Covid-19 and was admitted to the hospital yesterday and then his pulse dropped suddenly and he passed away early this morning.”

His wife, Kumudha, who also tested positive for Covid-19, is currently undertreatment in the hospital’s intensive care unit.
Pandu was an Indian actor born on 19 February, 1947 in Chennai Tamil Nadu. He appeared in many comedy roles. Pandu’s first appearance in Tamil cinema was in 1970 in the film Mannavan. Pandu is the brother of late actor Idichapuli Selvaraj who has worked as assistant director in movies like Ulagam Sutrum, Valiban, Idhayakkani etc.
In his career spanning about four decades, Pandu has performed comedy roles in 500-plus movies mainly in Tamil. He also performed roles in his late 1980s television serials in Doordarshan. Panju, Pattu, Peethambaram was hugely popular. He made his debut with the movie “Karai Ellam Shenbagapoo” in the early 1980s. Pandu gained recognition from the “Kadhal Kottai” in which he played the role of a brother. Some of his recent films include Itly (2018) and Indha Nilai Maarum (2020).
Pandu also appeared in television shows like Valli (2016) that aired on Sun T.V.

The painting of Jayalalithaa in the song ‘Enge Aval, Endre Manam” was drawn by him. Pandu was more passionate about Arts, Design, and Paintings rather than cinema. The Logos of SUN TV, Shankara Nethralaya, were designed by him. More than 250 logos for reputed companies, organizations were also his creations.

In addition to an established name and career in the film industry, Pandu is also known for having designed the AIADMK( then ADMK) party symbol of two leaves and party flag, after they split from the DMK. This task had been assigned to Pandu by late veteran actor-politician MG Ramachandran himself.
In 1975, Pandu also started a brass and aluminium business in Chennai called Prapanj Unlimited.
In 2014, he also held an art exhibition also alongside his son Panju Pandu.
